Why we work through local churches

Churches are present in every village, trusted by their neighbours and committed for the long term. Here is why they are at the heart of everything TDI does.

When TDI was founded in October 2009, it followed a survey that showed a clear need: local churches in Chitipa district wanted to serve their communities, but needed to be equipped and supported to do so.

Four reasons we work with churches

  1. Churches are agents of restoration. They are called to bring hope and healing to the whole community.
  2. Churches provide transformative, sustainable solutions. They were there before any project began and will be there after it ends.
  3. Churches provide shared moral values. Honesty, care and accountability make development work.
  4. Churches complement government in socio-economic services and humanitarian assistance.

Today more than 519 churches of diverse doctrines in Chitipa and Karonga work together through TDI.

“A transformed, equitable and self-sufficient community where everyone has life in its fullness.”
